Government of India launches a new and innovative service for pensioners leveraging face recognition technology to serve as proof of life.

Government of India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pioneered many innovative services leveraging transformative digital technologies for enhancing ease of living  for Indian citizens. Revamped Digital India 2.0 program envisages creating a platform based ecosystem as shared public good for multiple ministries. 

One of the latest services to join this list of innovative services is provision of Life Certificate to pensioners of central government using face recognition technologies. All pensioners are mandated to submit their life certificate annually to continue receiving pension. The facility to submit this certificate digitally using Aadhaar ID had already been implemented. 

The new service will benefit 6.8 million central government employees and will add a great convenience to elderly retired government employees enabling them submitting the proof of life certificates from the convenience of their homes.
